Vegan self-catering vacation on Mallorca: freedom, indulgence and a little paradise

Kathedrale von Palma, Mallorca.

Mallorca – endless beaches, picturesque villages and those laid-back Mediterranean vibes. But did you know that the island is also a true paradise for vegans? I’ve experienced it for myself and can tell you: self-catering vacations on Mallorca are not only doable, they’re simply fantastic!

Arrival & travel time

We were on the island from Sunday to Friday, so five nights. The direct flight from Salzburg to Palma was uncomplicated, and the rental car took us straight to the finca. Once we arrived, everything was very relaxed and we were able to switch fully into vacation mode.

Es Saquer de Son Coll: A finca straight out of a picture book

As soon as I arrived at the fincaEs Saquer de Son Coll in Algaida, I knew that I would feel at home here. The nature all around, the silence, just the chirping of the crickets and the gentle rustling of the olive trees in the wind. Wonderful!

The finca itself? A dream! Traditional stone walls, a large terrace, a private pool with views of the countryside and space for up to six people. The accommodation is in an absolutely secluded location – you really are on your own here. The way there leads over very stony and bumpy dirt roads – a car with more ground clearance is definitely recommended.

Stroll barefoot on the cool tiles into the kitchen in the morning, drink your first coffee on the terrace and gaze out over the vast Mallorcan landscape – there’s no better way to start the day. And if you like walking, there are wonderful paths through fields and olive groves right around the finca.

Shopping vegan? No problem!

If you’re worried that you’ll have problems shopping as a vegan in Mallorca – don’t panic! Lidl in Campos has everything you need. A huge selection of fresh fruit and vegetables, plant-based milk alternatives, hummus, spreads and even vegan ready meals.

What made me particularly happy? The prices are absolutely fair and there are lots of organic products. My highlight was the selection of Mediterranean delicacies – olives, fresh ciabatta, sun-ripened tomatoes and Mallorcan almonds. So if you’re planning to self-cater on vacation, you can easily buy everything you need for a great vegan break here.

Road trip along the coastal road in the north

A real highlight was our day trip along the MA-10, the beautiful coastal road through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. The views along the way are breathtaking – the turquoise sea on one side, the impressive mountains on the other.

Our route: first a stop at Platja de Sa Font de Sant Joan, then on to Pollença, past breathtaking scenery towards Escorca, through the mountains to Deià – a charming artists’ village – and finally our last stop: Valldemossa. There we ordered a coffee to go at the Barbaflorida Café – including a vegan almond milk alternative. Standing in the middle of this beautiful mountain village, with a coffee in hand and a view of the cobbled streets – it was the perfect end to this little road trip.

Happiness is at home when traveling.

Temple Natura: A green paradise in the middle of Palma

Okay, we were self-catering for most of the week – but on the last day we wanted to treat ourselves to something special. The choice fell on the Temple Natura in Palma, and I can tell you: it was a hit!

This restaurant is a green oasis in the middle of the city. As soon as you enter the courtyard, you forget the hustle and bustle around you. Plants everywhere, a relaxed atmosphere and that light, Mediterranean breeze. Perfect!

The menu? A dream for vegans! Everything is fresh, creative and full of flavor. I can particularly recommend the homemade ginger and lemonade – so refreshing that you’ll want to order more straight away. I also had pasta carbonara and chicken satay with rice. So delicious!

Conclusion: Mallorca is a dream destination for vegans

Whether you want to be completely self-sufficient or eat out in between – Mallorca offers everything the vegan heart desires. The finca “Es Saquer de Son Coll” as the perfect accommodation in a secluded location with a pool, the Lidl in Campos as a shopping paradise, a wonderful road trip through the Tramuntana mountains and the Temple Natura Café Garden as the crowning glory – this vacation couldn’t have been better.

Do you want to discover Mallorca from a new perspective? Then pack your bags, book a finca and enjoy the vegan diversity of the island!

PS: Since I unfortunately only took portrait format pictures of the finca and none in landscape format, the accommodation was kind enough to provide me with a picture of the finca – thank you very much again at this point! The author is: ©PORTIC VILLAS
