Hey there, today I want to take you with me to South Tyrol. In mid-November, my boyfriend and I felt the urgent need for a break. After a long search, we decided on the 4-star superior Active & Lifestyle Hotel Terentnerhof in the village of the same name, Terenten. The combination of sustainability, modernity & comfort and the fair price-performance ratio ultimately won us over. We quickly packed our bags and headed off to South Tyrol for the long weekend. The small village in which the hotel is located is situated at 1,210 m above the Puster Valley. It is known for its many hours of sunshine – 2,285 hours of sunshine a year – the village even has a sun seal – no joke!
Arrival at the hotel
When we got there, we parked in the hotel’s own, somewhat hidden underground parking garage. After we had unloaded our suitcases, we walked out of the underground car park and back in again a few meters further on at the main entrance. We received a very warm welcome at reception. As we had already checked in online beforehand, we were quickly finished at reception and went up to our room.
Cozy rooms for every taste
We looked at all the rooms in advance and the room categories range from cozy single rooms to spacious suites. We opted for the “Suite Deluxe”. The elegant oak furnishings and parquet flooring create a warm atmosphere, while the living area with a cozy couch corner and an effect fireplace invites you to linger. The spacious bedroom with a cozy round box-spring bed offers enough space for two – we slept very well! The special highlight and also the reason why we booked this room: A private sauna! We went hiking every day and really enjoyed the privacy of the sauna. It is small and nice. The suite also has a large, spacious walk-in closet with plenty of storage space – great if you’re traveling with a lot of luggage. Another thing we particularly liked was the rain shower – my boyfriend loves rain showers.
A little luxury: we had breakfast delivered to our room every day. It was wonderful! We could relax and drink our absolutely unbelievably delicious cappuccino in bed and then enjoy a long breakfast in our bathrobes – we really liked that. However, at an extra 15 euros per person, the service is not cheap – we simply booked it as a little luxury for us.

Wellness and activities in harmony with nature
The wellness area at the Terentnerhof is a wonderful and inviting retreat for those seeking relaxation. There are several relaxation rooms where you can retreat. There are also several saunas, a steam bath, an indoor and outdoor infinity sky pool on the roof and the opportunity to forget the stress of everyday life with a soothing treatment. One of the saunas – the open-air sauna – can be reached via an outdoor staircase. It is almost a little hidden. I recommend wearing good slippers here, as the stairs are outdoors and can get wet. As the hotel was almost fully booked during our stay and at the weekend, it got quite cozy in the sauna area. We were therefore very happy to have our own sauna, as we preferred to just cuddle up together.
In addition to the wellness offer, there is also an extensive selection of sporting activities. From guided hikes to action-packed ski tours in winter. There is also a different morning sports program every day, from abdominal-leg-buttocks workouts to aqua aerobics, yoga and Pilates. However, as we are not early risers, we simply borrowed two yoga mats from reception and did yoga in our room. With a view of the beautiful surrounding mountains – what more could you want?
The only thing we missed was a gym. Due to the description as an Active & Lifestyle Hotel, we assumed that there was one and didn’t even look for it on the website. However, as the hotel is in a prime location, not far from the nearest hiking trails and the ski slope, it is the ideal starting point for numerous hikes. We simply moved our daily sports session outside and went hiking every day. We were amazed by the beauty of the surrounding mountains and nature. We also went swimming after every hike – which was great.
Our hiking tip: The hike along the mill trail – Terenten nature trail to the earth pyramids and back to Terenten via the panorama trail. The hike starts just a few meters from the hotel.

Culinary delights at the highest level
One of the highlights of the Terentnerhof is undoubtedly its cuisine. The restaurant spoils guests with regional specialties and international delicacies. Particularly noteworthy is the focus on healthy eating. The cuisine at the Terentnerhof not only offers a wide selection for vegans, but also places great importance on sustainable and fresh ingredients. We had our own vegan menu every day and it was very, very tasty. I wonder if we can borrow the chef sometime?
Sustainability as a lived philosophy
What particularly distinguishes the Terentnerhof is its commitment to sustainability. This was also one of the main reasons why we chose this hotel. The hotel focuses on environmentally friendly measures, from energy-saving technology to the use of regional products. The sustainable concept even extends to the gastronomy, where attention is paid to seasonal and organic ingredients. This not only protects nature, but also contributes to a healthy lifestyle.
But that’s not all. Vital, alpine, lively – and sustainable: these are the Vitalpina Hotels. They stand for a high-quality vacation in South Tyrol and the Hotel Terentnerhof is one of them.
But what exactly does that mean? I asked for you and the lovely Maren from the Terentnerhof team told me the following: “All Vitalpina hotels have decided to join the ‘turn to zero’ climate neutrality alliance in 2021. This makes Vitalpina the first hotel cooperation to commit to calculating its own carbon footprint in order to become as climate-neutral as possible. Various factors are taken into account, e.g. the consumption of detergent in our laundries, the number and kilometers driven by our company vehicles, water and electricity consumption, the number of overnight stays and the catering provided to our guests and employees. The three-year plan towards climate neutrality provides for offsetting measures that are invested in climate projects of the Swiss non-profit foundation “myclimate” and benefit either drinking water treatment in Uganda, communal reforestation in Nicaragua and mangrove afforestation or the advancement of women in Myanmar.”
All in all, the Terentnerhof is a place that pampers body, mind and palate in equal measure. The combination of luxury and sustainability makes this place a wonderful experience. The Terentnerhof is the perfect choice for all those who not only want to relax, but also consciously enjoy themselves. Treat yourself to some time out, immerse yourself in the natural splendor of the Dolomites and let yourself be enchanted by the warm hospitality of the Terentnerhof.
I’m already looking forward to my next visit!
PS: As the hotel was very well booked during our stay, dear Maren was kind enough to provide me with a few photos of the wellness area which I was allowed to use for this article – thank you very much again! The author of the beautiful cover picture is: ©KOTTERSTEGER
PPS: This article was written without payment or consideration and reflects my own experiences. I would like to help vegans with their hotel search, as I know how long it can take to find a suitable hotel that offers very good vegan cuisine.
I have more great and useful tips on sustainable travel here summarized for you.
