Hey guys! Today I want to talk to you about a topic that affects us all and is becoming increasingly important in our ever-evolving world: Sustainable and eco-friendly cleaning products. At a time when climate change and pollution are becoming ever more challenging, we can make a positive contribution to our environment by making conscious choices in our everyday lives. In this blog article, I will show you how sustainable cleaning products can not only keep our homes clean, but also protect the environment.

The environmental benefits of sustainable and environmentally friendly cleaning products

The biggest advantage of sustainable cleaning products is obvious: they have a significantly lower impact on our environment than conventional cleaning products. Conventional cleaning products often contain a large number of harmful chemicals that are released into the air and water during use and thus pollute our ecosystems. These include, for example, phosphates, which lead to the over-fertilization of water bodies, or synthetic fragrances, which can trigger allergies.

Sustainable cleaning products, on the other hand, rely on natural ingredients that are biodegradable and non-toxic. They do not harm our health or the environment and are therefore an environmentally friendly alternative. In addition, many sustainable brands do not use animal testing, which makes them particularly attractive to us vegans.

Sustainable cleaning agent brands in Austria

There are now a large number of companies in Austria that specialize in the production of sustainable and environmentally friendly cleaning products. Here are some well-known brands that you can find in many stores and online:

  1. Claro: This brand produces dishwashing tabs and detergents made from natural ingredients that are completely biodegradable and free from colorants and fragrances. Packaged in compostable grass cardboard. I wouldn’t want to be without the Claro rinse aid for another day.
  2. Pernauer Chemiewerke GmbH: The company focuses on sustainable detergents, cleaners and soaps whose formulas are based on surfactants made from rapeseed oil, sunflower oil or palm oil-free sugar surfactants. The company has even developed its own cold saponification process, which requires significantly less energy than conventional saponification to make production even more environmentally friendly. I particularly like the ROY DE LIN range.
  3. Planet Pure: Is one of my favorite brands. All Planet Pure products are free from microplastics, genetic engineering and nanotechnology. With the exception of the washing-up liquid, all products are free from palm and palm kernel oil. All ingredients are easily and completely biodegradable. All products are also vegan.
  4. Uni-Sapon: The environmentally friendly cleaner from the Ländle. The cleaners are offered as concentrates, combined with empty spray bottles for dilution, which means you can save a huge amount of plastic packaging. I think Uni-Sapon’s “zero waste concept” is particularly nice!

Once to our neighbors gelunzt:

Ecover: The German company relies on biodegradable plant-based substances for its ingredients. All bottle bodies are made from recycled plastic. In addition, all products are free from microparticles or microplastics, vegan and cruelty-free. I really like the fabric softener from Ecover with apple blossom & almond, it smells so wonderful. Bought at dm.

Extra tip:
The environmental consultancy Öko-Rein: There you will find an extensive database of ecological detergents and cleaning products that are based on plant-based ingredients and are available in sustainable packaging. Super helpful, in my opinion!

Home remedies for environmentally friendly cleaning

In addition to specially produced sustainable cleaning products, you can also use tried and tested household remedies to clean your home in an environmentally friendly way. Vinegar, citric acid, active soda, baking powder, baking soda and active soda are all great natural cleaners. Vinegar is particularly good for descaling, while citric acid removes stubborn stains. Baking soda and baking powder are effective dirt removers and help to neutralize unpleasant odours. Active soda has a strong effect against grease. Especially when cleaning surfaces, e.g. in the kitchen or bathroom, washing soda can easily keep up with conventional cleaners and is much gentler.

10 tips for environmentally friendly cleaning

Here are ten simple but effective tips for an environmentally friendly cleaning experience:

  1. Uses multi-purpose cleaners to clean different surfaces with one product and reduce plastic packaging.
  2. When buying cleaning products, look out for eco-labels or certifications for environmentally friendly products. Such as the“Austrian Ecolabel“,“Nordic Ecolabel” and“EU Ecolabel“.
  3. Uses microfiber cloths that effectively remove dirt and bacteria without chemical cleaning agents.
  4. Mix your own cleaning products with natural household products to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment.
